Toastmasters Club

Takapuna Midday

the club for busy people

Do you want entry to the most cost effective, personal development, educational system in the world, then we are the club for you.

We are a lunch time club, you can fit it into your working day. No going out at night after the day is done.

We meet every Monday 12-15pm to 1.15pm - and as we are a community based club all are welcome to attend.

Come along, see if we are the club for you. Our friendly members will welcome you.

What happens at a meeting?

The President opens the meeting and then hands control over to the Chair.
We then move onto Table Topics (an impromptu speech of 60 to 90 seconds on a topic chose for them by the Table Topics Master) Visitors and guests are invited to participate but this is optional.
Members then give prepared speeches. We usually have 2 or 3 prepared speeches.
Everything is evaluated at Toastmasters, so we evaluate the Table topics speakers and then the prepared speeches.
When the meeting is concluded the Chair hands control back to the President who closes the meeting. See our blog for info on our past meetings. http://takapunamidday.blogspot.com.   One of our members also records speeches from our club, http://www.no-fear-public-speaking.com/ice-breakers-color-blindness-is-no-problem.html click on this link to take you to one of our members first icebreakers.

How long does it take to do the manuals?

There is no set time period. As we meet weekly we find that people tend to move through their speeches fairly quickly, however you can complete any manual at your own speed.
Do as much or as little as you want - step by step at your own pace

What does the club do?

As well as the members of the club assisting you with your speech assignments we also hold:
Educational workshops on a regular basis
Run annual contests in Humorous and Impromptu (Table Topics). Speech Evaluation, and the International Speech Contest which can lead to representation in the USA.

What does it cost?

There is an initial joining fee, plus a biannual subscription. With your initial payment you receive the Competent Communicator and Leadership Manuals and a monthly Toastmasters Magazine posted directly to your home.

Why join?

Survey after survey shows that presentation skills are crucial to success in the workplace. Many people pay high fees for seminars to gain the skill and confidence necessary to face an audience. Toastmasters provide an option that is less expensive and held in high regard in business circles. This organisation has been around for more than 80 years and offers a proven - and enjoyable - way to practice and hone communication and leadership skills.

Toastmasters will give you the skills and confidence you need to effectively express yourself in any situation. Whether you are a professional, student, stay-at-home parent or retiree, Toastmasters is the most efficient, enjoyable and affordable way of gaining great communication skills. By learning to effectively formulate and express your ideas, you open an entirely new world of possibilities. You’ll be more persuasive and confident when giving presentations, and you’ll improve your one-on-one dealings with others.

Don’t worry! Everyone in a Toastmasters club was once at the level you are now. The environment is friendly and supportive, and the self-paced program allows you to build confidence with each speaking assignment. And you’ll love the applause! Constructive evaluation is the heart of the Toastmasters program. Each time you give a prepared speech, an evaluator will point out strengths and suggest improvements. At first you’ll be applauded for your effort; later you’ll be applauded for your skill.

You won’t regret it. Toastmasters currently has more than 200,000 members in 80 countries. Our club is just one of the more than 10,000 clubs located around the world. For comments from our members please see our membership information page.
